These Sake Cups are the traditional Japanese lacquerware handmade by experienced craftsmen. Main material of the cup is a high-tech material which consists of lacquer and wood chip. Different from ordinal lacquerware, the new material prevents deformation by drying, is hardly scratched, and is water resistant. Therefore, these lacquerware are durable enough for everyday use.
Experienced lacquer painters gave lacquer “Urushi” coating on a cup, followed by hand drawn Japanese traditional patterns and drawings by gold lacquer masters.
This cup pattern is made by a traditional lacquer art technique “Makie”; after sprinkling gold or silver powder, lacquer is applied over the entire surface of the cup. After it is dried, the lacquer layer is polished down with a piece of charcoal to reveal the pattern of the Makie layer.
A traditional pattern of bamboo leaves are drawn on this cup.
