Buddha Statue, Thousand-armed Kannon, Palm-sized


This Buddha figurine is a model of the Palm-size Statue Series. Although their sizes are small (around 20cm / 8in height), details are elaborated as high quality as medium and large models.

Model of this supreme quality of Buddha statue is “Thousand-armed Kannon” (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy with a 1000 arms) which is designated a national treasure of Japan. The statue, made by Tankei, has a calm and rounded facial expression. The typical saint face and as many as 42 arms have a splendid harmony of balance. Their beautiful standing posture is one reason of their popularity. Whilst truly depicting every detail of the original statue, color screentone of gold is down so that it merges into our living spaces.

Character of Thousand-armed Kannon
Thousand-armed Kannon, also known as the King of the Buddhist Goddess, expresses infinite mercy by their figure. They are equipped with 11 heads to better witness the suffering of humans, and with one thousand arms to better help them fight the suffering. Although it is called “thousand-armed”, the actual statues have only 42 arms each. Subtract the two regular arms and multiply by the 25 planes of existence to get the full thousand.
